Dublin loses thousands of construction jobs, Northern Ireland creates thousands

Construction jobs will be on the increase in Northern Ireland before the end of this year. This is possible because of the deal brokerage expertise of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) after quite some time. It is no longer news that the DUP brokered a deal with PM Theresa May to the tune of £400 million. The irony of this new deal is this.

  1. Thousands will lose their construction jobs in Dublin.
  2. There will be thousands of construction jobs on the Northern Ireland in road and infrastructure projects.

In Northern Ireland, they have been reports that the housing sector of the construction industry is suffering a great deficit. The deal will create more jobs because there will be new projects. In essence, the contractors will need more workforce to complete these jobs. The housing will possibly get a reasonable percentage for a reduction in the deficit.

The workforce in Northern Ireland unlike in Dublin is more than the construction jobs available. By Q2 2017, only one-third of the construction companies in Northern Ireland had openings for workforce quota for the year. With the deal, more jobs will be provided, for instance, one of the major interchanges, the York Street Interchange will gulp a little over 30% of the deal.

However, in Dublin, in the coming days there will be a resurgence of in the industry. The loss of construction jobs due to industrial actions and no funding will be balanced. On the Ireland island, there is enough manpower at the North and South combined. However in most cases but there are more jobs on one end of the island than on the other. So, when the jobs openings are out, the best place to get updates on these openings will be www.breakfastrollclub.ie.

Until then, keep the spirit on and don’t lose hope.

Northern Ireland; The Big Brexit Construction Winner

Northern Ireland business activity is outperforming the United Kingdom overall, with exports & sales growth which has been fuelled by a cheap sterling pound, according to a survey today.

Construction businesses in Northern Ireland has hit an 8 month high point, reporting faster rates of growth than the UK average. According to the Ulster Bank (PMI) in August.

Construction exports to the Republic of Ireland helped see a rise in demand, due largely to the weakness of sterling against the euro due to Brexit reducing the pounds value. This is great news for Northern Ireland, while construction businesses in the Republic of Ireland might be losing out on contracts due to a rise in competition.

It is not just in the construction industry, all sectors saw an upsurge in productivity and output, led by the services sector, which posted the fastest expansion in 17 months.

“The successful filling of vacancies was also mentioned by some respondents, helping to lead to the 31st successive monthly rise in employment. Manufacturing was the only sector to buck the overall trend,” the survey said.

And it “would appear that Northern Ireland is benefiting from the robust recovery in the eurozone”, according to Richard Ramsey, Ulster Bank chief economist.

“Northern Ireland firms are taking advantage of having one of the fastest growing economies in Europe – the Republic of Ireland – on its doorstep,” he said.

“Throw a weak currency into the mix and the conditions are ideal for local firms selling into the Republic/eurozone market.

However, Mr Ramsey said inflation remains a major challenge for business.

“Indeed, construction saw the fastest rise in input cost inflation in eight months. Firms appear to be passing their rising costs on to their customers with the price of goods and services rising across all sectors,” he said.

“Looking ahead, the robust rates of growth in new orders across most sectors bodes well for the months ahead. However, inflationary pressures will act as a break on consumer spending in the domestic market.

A Robot Will Steal Your Construction Job

Construction Robots? Not possible

The construction industry in Ireland is currently moving towards machine take over. The impending takeover by robots is as a result of the continuous decline in the availability of labour. The concern of construction workers in Ireland is that a robot will steal their construction job.

The construction industry’s value is about $10 trillion globally and in terms of productivity, the industry is far behind. However, in recent years, there has been a substantial improvement productivity.  Waste management, cost overrun, the design had low productivity but the increase came with the introduction of robots.

In the United States, over 200,000 jobs were unfilled as at the first quarter of 2017. This calls for concern because construction companies in Ireland are not being able to meet up with the programme of works. Since there are no workers, the robots are gearing up to come and steal the construction jobs.

So, do not be surprised when major construction companies start to invest massively in the acquisition of robots. These robots will do the welding, the bricklaying and other jobs Artificial Intelligence can do.

What will robots do on Construction sites ?

Hey, dude, you said robots will steal my construction job in Ireland, so what exactly will the robot be doing on site? Here is a hint, go to  www.brakfastrollclub.ie. There are a thousand and one jobs on a construction sites for robots. Jobs like  waste disposal, general arrangement of the site, laying of bricks. Also, dispensing of  concrete. fixing of façade, painting, welding, iron bending for reinforcement bars. Demolition, services installation, setting out and the shocker of the century site inspection. Yes, site inspection for a 100 storey will take weeks but a drone will complete it in days.

Manufacturers are in top gear as concern preparation and investors are also back to the drawing board to re strategize if really, it’s time for the change or not. But I can assure you this, a robot will steal your construction job in Ireland in no time.

You may have other thoughts and I will like to hear you out. Untill then, prepare for handing over to that robot.

The Irish Construction Apprenticeship Snob Economy

Are you a construction apprenticeship Snob?

“There are hundreds of jobs worth millions of euro worth of work every year that will not be filled and done because of a lack of a skilled labour force”

John McCartin has come out stating that Irish construction workers “look down our noses at apprenticeships” and our economy is paying the price.

Construction businesses are being forced to reject construction projects worth millions of Euro of work every year because we do not have enough skilled labour workers.

construction worker snobs ireland Apprenticeship

This large claim has been made by Newtowngore Engineering Managing Director, who is also a Fine Gael Councillor.

Newstalk Breakfast radio show featured John this week, where he said “The labour force in this country is lacking people who can work with their hands.

“If you’re talking about trades like electronic engineers, steel fitters, detailers, there just aren’t the qualified people out there and the experienced people out there to allow companies like our own and our competitors to take on the work we could take on and compete for.

“I live in a very sparsely populated area, it’s the only part of western Europe where the population density is below 20 people per square kilometre.

Newtowngore Engineering said that their business has 15 jobs available that they can’t fill.

John John John… Did you not check out www.breakfastrollclub.ie to assist you in filling your skilled construction job requirements? It’s not too late, just give us a call!

This is an unfortunate reality that Ireland is currently facing. That Ireland has a construction apprenticeship snob economy which is caused by many factors, including skilled workers emigrating, and colleges not gearing more towards labour work.

“There’s no real quick fix to it, you can’t just invent a skilled labour force or an educated labour force or you can’t invent people who have gone through apprenticeships at the drop of a hat.”

construction worker snobs ireland 2017

John said: “If we had people coming out of vocational education and going onto apprenticeships then people would have skills like mechanical engineering, electronical engineering, people who are good with their hands and then nobody would be out of work in this economy.

This is not a direct problem with the construction employees themselves, but more of a failing with the government and mechanism that encourage people to take up labour jobs from an early age!

“In countries like Germany they have always viewed technical instruction as part of the mainstream education and I guess that’s part of why their economy has been so competitive and their manufactured goods are sen as premier goods all over the world.

“We’re not competing for work that we could aggressively be chasing in our region because we know if we land a big fish we just don’t have the workforce.”

What do you think, are you turning up your nose at apprenticeships? Do you agree with John?

Ireland: Impress the Foreman on Your First Day

Ireland: Impress the Foreman on Your First Day

impress the foreman in work ireland

On your first day at a construction site, you want to give a good first impression. The foreman’s opinion of you depends on this initial meeting – and it can mean a lot. A positive opinion can open up new job opportunities for you in the future and help you to succeed, whereas a negative one may hurt you on your next job search. While all of the construction jobs Ireland has available are different, and all foremen are different, there are some ways to have a positive impact on your first day and leave a good, lasting impression on the foreman.

make an impression on foreman

Sleep and Eat Well

Mentally and physically, you have to be present. You have to be there and you have to manage the job, communication, and little pieces of the work. If you fail to sleep or eat well beforehand, you may not be there fully. This can lead to you having troubles with your work and failing to meet expectations. It can hurt you a great deal and put you, and others, at risk.

Have Your Equipment

Look through your equipment and figure out what you are going to take with you. You are not going to need everything, merely the tools you are planning to use, so plan accordingly. Take the essentials that you know you will need with you when you are on the worksite.

Do remember to make sure everything works. Make sure every piece of equipment is in working, usable order and has everything necessary to start using. You do not want to take time away from work to go manage your tools when you should already have everything figured out.

Know the Specifics

You already know the basics and the standards, but each construction site has its own expectations. You might need special equipment or you might need to do something different. Regardless, you will want to check with your foreman to make sure you have everything sorted immediately. If there is anything that you have to do beforehand, do it. This way, you are not left without necessary equipment or knowledge on your first day on the job.

A good attitude and preparation can take you far in nearly all construction jobs Ireland offers. Foremen are going to have a better opinion of you if you come ready, if you have everything, and if you have a good attitude about the job and the work.

Construction jobs for residential builds in Ireland up 36% year-on-year

Photos Please send me photos of your projects

The construction jobs Ireland has available has been on the rise. The reasoning for this is simple – more construction work to do requires more construction workers. As the number of homes built continues to climb, the number of workers needed must, too. With the residential builds up 36% this year, you see a need for more and more construction workers across the country. This is true in just about every part of Ireland. Residential builds are continuing to go up, so the market and need for construction jobs has followed. You will see far more building jobs in Dublin opening up, as they have been over the years.

An Increase in Builds

The amount of new homes built this year has seen an increase in more than 1,500, 36%. This adds to the total number of homes in Ireland, nearly 2 million, and the numbers continue to rise. This year, there were nearly 6,000 homes built compared to the almost 4,400 built just a year prior. The numbers continue to go up, too. Construction jobs Ireland offers are seeing an increase, as well, as the home market climbs higher every month. The amount of new homes built is not going down any time soon.

Nearly a quarter of all of these homes are in Dublin, too. While there is a countrywide increase in new home builds, Dublin has taken the majority of new builds and building jobs. These same areas are heavily populated, too. They have the fewest amount of vacant properties, compared to areas like Leitrim and Mayo that had the highest.

More Builds, More Jobs

With builds on the rise, there is going to be an increased need for qualified workers. Building jobs in Dublin and other densely populated areas will see the largest need for workers. Alongside Dublin, Cork and Meath are some of the most construction-heavy locations in Ireland right now. Dublin has far more than any, however, and continues to bring about new construction jobs and new home builds.

New builds are going to see a continued rise over the years. Right now, there is a need in many areas, especially Dublin, for new builds and more vacant residencies. While this is not true all across Ireland, many areas continue to bring new builds as the demand goes up. In nearly every major populated area, you will see a continued growth in available new builds, as you likely have in recent months.

Going Up

In May of this year, the amount of approvals for mortgage has gone up. By more than 33%, approvals for mortgage are on the rise. Value has gone up, too, by about 45%. For first time buyers, approval is up by more than 45%. These numbers are staggering, reminiscent of the last mortgage bubble. These numbers are not rare or going down, either. This is not a one time increase in approvals. All across the board, approvals and values are climbing high and leaving us in a dangerous situation.

It is not just home buyers experiencing a boost in approvals. Those who remortgage their homes or switch saw an increase of over 33%, roughly the same amount as overall mortgage increases.

The values of homes has been on the rise. Anyone who works construction jobs Ireland offers may have seen the increase in value. Purchase values have risen significantly with home buyers, especially first time home buyers. Any individual getting a mortgage or remortgaging their home has seen an increase in value, thus an increase in the amount they have to pay. The value keeps climbing, too, and is much higher than it was this time last year.

The Bubble is Back

All of this means that the mortgage bubble has returned. The bubble, which led to the collapse about 10 years ago that devastated the economy, is building once again. We may see this happen again. With the direct the market is going, the bubble is only getting bigger and bigger. At some point, this bubble is likely to burst and we will see a downward spiral towards economic collapse a second time just a decade after the last bubble. It is something to watch and something to keep in mind, especially for those working building jobs in Dublin.
